VUW Focus Group - Mātauranga Māori digital collections/archives in Aotearoa

Invitation to participate in a research project on mātauranga Māori digital collections/archives in Aotearoa - Te Herenga Waka

Kia ora tatou,

We are a research team based at the School of Information Management at Te Herenga Waka— Victoria University of Wellington, exploring how Māori users interact with mātauranga Māori in digital collections/archives here in Aotearoa. We are seeking to understand how users currently utilize these collections and the digital platforms they are accessed through. Our research goals are to identify how current utilization practices do and do not meet Māori needs and desires to consider how these knowledge collections can better support current and future generations.

We are looking for individuals to participate in either a focus group or interview. Focus groups will take place in-person in Wellington and will last approximately 1–1.5 hours. A catered lunch will be provided. Interviews can be conducted in-person, on Zoom, or over the phone, depending on your location and preferences. These will take between 45 minutes–1 hour and a koha will be offered.

Your participation supports this research by helping us understand the different ways users currently use digital knowledge collections/archives in Aotearoa and how future platforms and practices can be transformed by Māori values, tūmanako (aspirations), and kawa (protocols). Your participation helps ensure Māori perspectives and experiences are at the centre of our research process and will guide our research outcomes as we contribute to the creation of digital collection/ archive platforms that reflect Māori values and access protocols.

Should you be interested in participating, please contact Postdoctoral Research Fellow Ailsa Lipscombe (ailsa.lipscombe@vuw.ac.nz) at your earliest convenience, who will provide you with further details.

We will be accepting expressions of interest to participate until March 17, 2024.

If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact any member of the research team at the following: Associate Professor Chern Li Liew (Chernli.liew@vuw.ac.nz), Associate Professor Spencer Lilley (Spencer.lilley@vuw.ac.nz), or Ailsa Lipscombe (ailsa.lipscombe@vuw.ac.nz).

Ngā mihi nui. We look forward to hearing from you and we hope you will consider participating in this research.
