Notes for Contributors

Statement on Content
The editorial board of Archifacts welcomes contributions on archive, recordkeeping, and related preservation issues. Contributions can be of both a New Zealand and international nature. While word length is entirely up to the contributor, as a guide items are generally in the 1500-6000 word range.

Style guidelines

  • As a rule Archifacts follows the Chicago Manual documentary-note style for footnotes and endnotes. This is sometimes referred to as the humanities style.
  • Details of the Chicago Documentation Style can be found in the Chicago Manual of Style. Various abbreviated versions of the documentation style can be located on the web. An easy to follow example is the Victoria University Library resources web site at,,under Style Guides/ Chicago Manual of Style guide/ documentary note style.
  • All Papers must be completed as justified word documents, in Times New Roman, 12 point, with one-and-a-half spacing. Photographs and digital items, for example maps and diagrams, are welcome.
  • Papers should be submitted in electronic form to the editor.
  • Archifacts is printed using endnotes, rather than footnotes. All endnotes should be generated from within the text, using the "insert/footnote-endnote" option. This automatically generates a numbering sequence.
  • Any quotations used in the text are to be cited in the endnotes with full references.
  • Macrons, for Maori words, can be used, though this is not an editorial requirement. Contributors should apply the use of macrons consistently throughout their submitted work.
