Managing Community Archives - A Workshop. Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery, Alexandra 19-20 October 2010
Arranged by The Otago / Southland Branch Archives and Records Association of New Zealand
Sponsored by Archives New Zealand and Hocken Collections, University of Otago
Purpose
This workshop is designed to help community archives managers and others interested to plan, focus and manage their resources to better benefit their collections and communities, and to have the opportunity to share ideas and experiences. There will also be a focus on access and public programmes.
It is not, however, intended to be a practical hand-on workshop on appraisal, arrangement, conservation, digitisation, though the policy aspects of these may well be touched on.
Alexandra, at the heart of the Otago goldfields, was chosen for the workshop as representative of many smaller southern New Zealand communities with a well-developed sense of history and heritage, and as the home of an impressive new museum.
Though it is expected that most attending will come from southern New Zealand, applications from further north would be very welcome. As it is planned to limit the number accepted to 20, if the workshop should be oversubscribed, preference may be given to southern applications.
