(re)Claiming the Future: Recovery and Reuse – an ARANZ Symposium
Following a year of physical and metaphorical upheaval in Canterbury and in our national archival institutions, ARANZ is proud to host an end of year symposium for members and guests that will explore planning for, and recovery from, adversity. Given the year, the event is intended to be a symposium in the classic Greek sense of the word, as a chance for friends and colleagues to gather, share experiences, and discuss the roles and practices we undertake on a daily basis. To this end, the Symposium is about recovery, reclaiming the future, and archival use, and is intended to reflect the positive attributes that marked New Zealanders’ response to the Canterbury earthquakes: resilience, perseverance and reflection. The future focussed recovery and reuse theme implies an interconnectedness between the archives and the community (there can be no recovery or reuse without), and these connections are revealed in the line-up of papers and speakers.

The symposium will include the Association’s Annual General Meeting in the afternoon; just as importantly, the day will provide an opportunity for colleagues and friends to get together over the provided lunch or at the post-AGM drinks, to catch up and share war stories and a laugh. In addition, ARANZ Wellington Branch have extended an invitation to delegates to join their Christmas Party later in the evening. Although details are still being finalised, the night promises to be a grand occasion in true Wellington Branch style, with live music, food and frivolity.
Places are limited due to the size of the venue, so be sure to register as early as possible. In addition, the symposium follows hot on the heels of the National Digital Forum in Wellington, and ARANZ warmly acknowledges the support and accommodation the NDF has provided.
