Archives and Records Association of NZ Annual Plan 2007/8

1. Education and Professional Development

1.1 Explore accreditation for archives and records management courses in NZ
Investigate what is involved in giving official recognition to certain courses in NZ and pursue discussions with institutions and other stakeholders if deemed appropriate.

1.2 Review Focus on Archives and Records Week
Arrange a meeting with RMAA and Wellington ARANZ branch to review the 2007 Focus on Archives and Records Week. Outcomes and decisions for management of FAR 2008 to be presented at October Council meeting.

1.3 Review Michael Standish and Ian Wards prizes
These prizes have been awarded since 2001 and Council considers it is an appropriate time to review them to ensure they meet their objectives and to remain relevant to the New Zealand archives and records community.

1.4 Increase our interest in the Pacific region through involvement with PARBICA
Develop a relationship with PARBICA and explore the idea of sponsorship up to $500 if this would make a difference at the PARBICA conference.

2. Membership

2.1 Constitution
Lodge approved changes to the constitution and revise the Branch Handbook to incorporate them.

2.2 Better inform members of Council activities
Put Annual Plan on the ARANZ website for members to view as soon as it is approved.

2.3 Develop a marketing plan aimed at strengthening membership

Analyse the needs of practitioners and others interested in the archives and records management field, and ARANZ’s role in meeting their needs, and develop a plan to increase membership.



3. Professional Relationships

3.1 Investigate the possibility of a memorandum of understanding with RMAA NZ Branch.
In an effort to avoid conflicts (e.g. with annual conferences) and strengthen support and advocacy for archives and records management in New Zealand, initiate discussions with RMAA NZ Branch over a formal memorandum of understanding.

3.2 Initiate contact with Te Ropu Whakahau to explore the possibility of a closer relationship.

Enhance relationship with, and support for, Maori involved in archives and records management by exploring the possibility of developing a stronger relationship with Te Ropu Whakahau.

 

4. Publications

4.1 Review current publications
Review effectiveness of current publications (newsletter, Archifacts and the website) including audience, content, relationship to one another etc., in line with marketing plan.


 

5. Administration

5.1 Develop a procedure manual
Improve consistency of operations and facilitate changes in roles and responsibilities by bringing guidelines and procedures together in one place. (This should include the Branch Handbook, which requires updating with the new constitution, and redistribution.)
